Yahoo and Google bolster advertising solutions

Yahoo and Google have both launched new advertising solutions with advanced features and services in a bid to secure more revenue, according to reports.

Monday (June 22, 2009), saw the unveiling of a self-serve display advertising service at Yahoo which allows companies to create their own online ads.

It’s hoped it will benefit the SME businesses that have not been able to benefit from the expertise and advice of the Yahoo sales team and account managers that have concentrating their efforts on larger advertisers.

The product provides advertisers with more than 800 display ad templates running across the Yahoo network of Web sites. They can also opt to pay on a pay per click basis.

Yahoo’s closest rival Google is to test a new type of ad platform which aims to showcase products in its sponsored links that that appear alongside search results.

According to an announcement from Google on blogoscoped.com, the ads will feature product pricing and a product image and will initially only be visible to a small number of US users before being rolled out.

The move has been prompted by the launch of Microsoft's new search engine Bing. Its search results currently offers more product and pricing information than Google's.
